City wide El Nino preparation drill, Nov 7, 2015

Wagon Wheel CERT conducted a neighborhood survey as part of the City Wide drill.   A total of 5 neighbors participated.  Our meeting began at Clock Tower Coffee on Middlefield and Whisman with coffee and discussion.

With Clipboards and neighborhood maps in hand, we began a survey walk around the perimeter of the Wagon Wheel Neighborhood.   Following the walk, 3 members continued on bicycle to explore the area beyond our immediate boundries; Moffett Blvd area and Stevens Creek Trail to just beyond the 101 underpass.  These are areas which drain our neighborhood and Stevens Creek for many miles into the hills.

Only 2 items that need attention were found.  The first is pictured below.  This is at the end of Whisman Park on the bridge across Stevens Creek.  Looking south from the bridge, there is a tremendous amount of debris.  In a major rain, loose debris will float down stream, and may lodge in underpasses, etc obstructing the water flow.  Since all of Stevens Creek drains through this area, obsructions could cause local flooding.

The second area is in the 300 block of Tyrella Avenue. A wire is hanging low into one of the trees. WWNA CERT will contact the appropriate authorities to have these situations addressed.

Otherwise we had a lovely walk around the perimeter of our neighborhood and familiarized ourselves with the routes of gas pipelines and other utilities in our neighborhood.    Discussion with fellow neighbors during the walk was a plus..
