Emergency Operations – a Report from the Front Lines

When Coyote Creek flooded and thousands had to evacuate, when wildfires killed 43 people in the North Bay and destroyed whole neighborhoods, and when hurricanes swept through the southern states, emergency operations kicked in.

Here’s your chance to listen to and ask questions of Stephanie Charles and Stephanie Wilde.  Both are Red Cross volunteers, and Stephanie Charles is also a Mountain View CERT and ham.  Both were deployed to multiple disasters last year, nearby and further afield.  They will be speaking about their experiences on:

Date:   Thursday, May 24th

Place:  1000 Villa Street in Mountain View

Time:   7 – 8:30 PM.

Sign up:  http://k6mtv.org/  follow “Links/resources”

All of these disaster responses involved large, complex operations, and between them, the two Stephanies were involved in many different facets.  They will share their stories about some of the fascinating and challenging aspects of disaster response .  How were these responses organized and how well did various organizations play together?  What worked well and what were some of the challenges?  What role did CERTs and hams play?  How could the public have been better prepared?

Come hear their stories and candid observations about an extraordinary year in disaster response.  This will be an interactive session, so think about what questions you’d like to ask these two who have been there and done it.

Both Ham and CERT folks are invited to this lessons-learned evening.
